Whether you’re on the giving or receiving end of a gift, that gift can elicit feelings of gratitude. And research has found that gratitude is integral to happiness, health, and social bonds. Robert Emmons and Michael McCullough, co-directors of the Research Project on Gratitude and Thankfulness, found that teaching college students to “count their blessings” and cultivate gratitude caused them to exercise more, be more optimistic, and feel better about their lives overall.—UC Berkeley Greater Good Science Center
As we head into the holidays and the New Year, it’s a good time to pause, reflect and be grateful for our families, our health and our careers. It’s also a good time to give back and help others.

For the last two years I have had the privilege to sit on the Board of Directors for the Bay Area Advertising Relief Committee. As a young professional in the nonprofit sector, I have built my career on helping underserved communities.
BAARC has given me opportunity to serve another community: the marketing community of San Francisco. A community that most of my friends and I are a part of. Now, you may wonder, why does such a community need help? Well, because life throws everyone curve balls. Just because you have a lucrative and stable career today, does not mean you will have it tomorrow. Read more.
For many years, BAARC’s Mentor Program has been a guiding force in our industry — matching mentees with a few years’ of experience with professionals with 10+ years of wisdom to share. The next session will start in mid-September, but it’s never too late to apply.
Because the program was so successful, we saw a need to create another Mentor Program — this one focused on helping recent college graduates find their way, with the role of mentor played by young professionals with a few years’ under their belt. This new program kicks off this September, with its first meeting on September 18th, at the San Francisco Main Public Library at 6:00pm. The topic of the first meeting will be Personal Branding.
Anyone interested in joining the Young Mentor Program, is encouraged to apply here.
Regardless of your career level or income, it’s not cheap to live in the Bay Area. That’s why more than ever it’s important to financially prepare yourself for the future.
